“Uhhh, I wonder what Great Dane tastes like, man.” – Cheech Marin, “Up in Smoke”
In 2004, Morgan Spurlock created a documentary called “Super Size Me,” where he ate nothing but McDonald’s for thirty days to prove that fast food really does make you fat. After that period, he gained almost thirty pounds, killed some of his liver, and is infertile. He proved that not only is it very unhealthy to just be eating fast food, but it’s strangely addicting. It’s like watching two movies a day for a year…
Comedian Doug Benson, who was rated as 2006’s Stoner of the Year by High Times Magazine, goes even FURTHER than fast food. How do you ask? Well… by getting high for thirty-days. Before he does that, however, he doesn’t smoke pot at all for thirty days to see what not smoking pot can do for you. He takes various tests, bitches to his audience about how he’s going through weed withdrawl, and goes for regular checkups (about every three days).
Then once the thirty days are over, he buys a big thing of pot and goes on a thirty-day spree of doing nothing but getting high and making very unfunny jokes. He buys some hash brownies, some hash chocolate bars… and EVEN smokes weed with Sarah Silverman. The best part about it is… he’s smarter on weed than when he isn’t on weed.
You’re probably asking how this guy can get away with smoking weed, and I’ll tell you why – because he is fucking famous! No seriously, he does all of his weed smoking in California. If you didn’t know about it, you are allowed to purchase weed for medical use if given permission by a doctor. To tell you the truth, I don’t know what weed does for you. I have never used it or plan on using it. But as far as I know from watching film, there is no such thing as medical uses of marijuana. You either smoke it to become relaxed, smoke it to be cool, or smoke it because you just don’t give a fuck. I really can’t tell you which one of these reasons is Doug Benson’s reason but I can assure you that it isn’t because he is cool. He’s not famous enough.
In between watching Morgan Spurlock eating all of that McDonald’s in “Super Size Me,” we saw him interviewing politicians and food-figures. In “Super High Me,” Doug Benson interviews occasional celebrities that decide to talk to him and decides to take a look at the legalized use of marijuana. While marijuana is still legal to people who are given permission by a doctor, the DEA is enforcing the federal law. “Super High Me” would rather become political instead of showing the true effects of marijuana. “Super Size Me” didn’t even go that far.
About half of the film is Doug Benson cracking very unfunny jokes to audiences at comedy clubs. The one half of the film where he isn’t on pot, he’s bitching about not being high. This can either be showing the true effects of marijuana, or just trying to be pretty funny. Either way, it doesn’t work. “Super Size Me” was actually funny. Morgan Spurlock, being a vegan, would comment what it was like eating processed meats, and it was funny to us. This Benson guy is already a pothead. Whenever he makes jokes, it is jokes that we’ve ALL heard before. He even comments, “It’s fun whenever you’re high.”
“Super High Me” is being called the ultimate stoner film, but I say go fuck yourself. Check out some Cheech and Chong stuff or even “Harold and Kumar.” But like “Super Size Me,” which kept me far away from McDonald’s for a few years now, “Super High Me” is just enough to keep me away from pot for the rest of my days.

I have heard mixed things about this.
I was really encouraged by your review.
Spurlock's not a vegan. His wife is.
