Every year, I see countless number of horror films that are either very good or very dreadful. Amidst those films, there are also a couple of films in the bunch that either shock you or disturb you to the level that it's very horrifying and gruesome to watch. This is definitely one of those films, as it’s very rare for me to see a film that’s realistic in its brutality and shocking imagery.
The film is about a college student (Chris Burchette), who becomes fixated with a young coed (Cameron Wright) when he sees her at his college for the first time. He believes that he has found the perfect girl to be with. Soon that obsession with her turns into murder, when his low-profile life begins to spiral out of control. Now, he becomes obsessed with trying to hide his obsession that is driving him insane. The student does that murdering everyone that knows about his obsession with the woman and those close to her. Now there is nothing that stops him, from being with the person he’s obsessed with.
“Bloodstained Romance” is a terrifying and shocking look into the psyche of a deranged mind. Director, Travis B. Miller’s does a great directing job with his feature film debut. The directing style that he uses makes this feature was very realistic and makes the horror very disturbing to watch. B. Miller also does a good job slowing the film’s action, as this film is meant to be a character study piece than an over the top full-fledged horror film. It helps make the main character and the story, more terrifying. He also did a great job when casting this film, as I brought the two leads performances. Chris Bruchette and Cameron Wright were both very good in their respective roles. Bruchette’s performance is one of the most terrifying performances of the year. His presence made this film very creepy from start to finish, as his performance is one of the most villainous performances of the year. Miller also gets a very good supporting performance from Cameron Wright, who made her character come across as innocent-like. It makes you interested and care about her character.
B. Miller’s screenplay was very frightening and felt realistic. His screenplay goes into the depths of the main character’s deranged and brutal state of mind, which makes this film brutally frightening. B. Miller achieves that by developing the character’s obsession with the girl that he’s stalking and how that it has been effecting his relationships with the people around him. That was done to focus on the psychological aspects of the character’s mind and why someone would do such a horrible thing, as the things that character does is very brutal and shocking. Also, I liked how B. Miller doesn’t try making the action in his story fast paced or having the bloody deaths feel senseless or just there to add blood into the story. The reason for this is that the violence is very shocking and very bloody. If one of those things isn’t meet, then the film doesn’t feel disturbing and the deaths don’t come off as realistic.
“Bloodstained Romance” is a brutally horrifying film that will shock you, with the level of violence and a disturbing look at the mind of a psychopathic killer. I highly recommend this film, to any horror film that is looking to be disturbed and shocked.
