In a little over a month, FilmArcade.net is sure to be filled with top ten lists from almost all of our writers. But with the exception of a few films, the more that I think about 2008, the more disappointed I get. Almost all of the films I looked forward to have disappointed, aside from three of them (and for those who have been following my reviews, I’m sure you can just guess which three they are). But I love Top Ten lists. I love comparing different critics’ film tastes.
One of the many top ten lists that I look forward to seeing every year is FilmArcade.net’s very own Dr. Royce Clemens. More than likely (actually, very likely), he won’t be posting his top ten here, but the man has done something interesting lately. On his Myspace Blog, he’s been doing a section called Decade’s Best, which he looks back at this decade and looks at some of his favorite films of the new millennium so far. But more interesting is that is his end of the year top ten lists. They’re always so much fun to read, and wait until his Worst of 2008 list comes…
But that got me thinking – what ARE the best films of the decade? I looked back and found so many great flicks, but what were the most memorable ones? What ones defined our decade?
So I put together a list of twenty films that were my favorites of the decade. They range from comedies to dramas to even horror films. You won’t find a more diverse list on the web for the decade, I can tell you this much.
Of course, this list has a few rules to it…
- No documentaries or short films shall be included. This includes my all-time favorite documentary “The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters” and my favorite short-film “Cashback.” Sorry guys.
- Foreign films are allowed as long as they had a theatrical release in the United States.
- Independent films are qualified as long as they had at the minimum a limited theatrical release.
Number 20 on my list will be coming on Saturday, November 29. Control yourself…
