"Conjurer” Trailer

“Conjurer” is a dark and Gothic horror film that has won awards at festivals such as the Rhode Island International Horror Film Festival, Dixie Film Festival and the Illinois international Film Festival. It’s also has played at major festivals , such as the Rhode Island International Film Festival, Dark Carnival Film Festival, Eerie Horror Film Festival and Shriekfest Film Festival.

The film is about, an art photographer (Andrew Bowen) who moves along with his wife (Maxine Bahns) into a rural farmhouse, after losing their stillborn baby. Soon, the photographer begins to find happenings that surround the old cabin, that’s on their property. At first, he doesn’t believe that the cabin house is cursed, but he soon becomes convinced that a deadly ghostly presence is on his property. Now the photographer is losing his mind, as his dark and troubled past starts to haunt. Is this the work of the deadly ghost, or is it all just in mind. John Schneider from TV’s “Smallville” and “Dukes of Hazzards” co-stars.

“Conjurer” is a very dark and gothic ghost film that’s very suspenseful. This could have been a Lifetime Movie of the Week, with the production and story. But what makes this film the total opposite of that was that this was very creepy and scary. Most of the credit goes to writer/director, Clint Hutchison. His direction was very good, as the direction created a sense of fear and projected a gothic atmosphere that’s noticeable throughout the film. Hutchison also makes sure that the film’s pace is slow. It was needed here; so that you go into character development of the main character and spend sometime with the relationship and how these events are ruining it. He also gets the performances down, as the main character played, by Andrew Bowen was very dark and tormented with his performance. The supporting performances were also good, as they helped move the story along and helped its development.

The screenplay written by Hutchison and David Yarbrough was gothic, as it had the feel of an H.P. Lovecraft story or an Alfred Hitchcock film. The screenwriters did a good job with the overall atmosphere of the film, as the tension level was very high. The writers also developed their characters and subplots very well and very effectively. I liked how, they spend time on everything from the main relationship, which was developed, to the history of the house, which helped set up the dark and gothic action that was to follow. They even added, a subplot concerning the main character’s history, which help makes the main character become darker, as the film goes on. But what makes this film very good was that they kept the story interesting through the various twists. It helped make this an actual film than a made for television film, which it could have easily been.

“Conjurer” is a very dark and gothic ghost story that will scare you and keep your interest.

I think you liked this a bit more than I did. I found is pretty generic especially with the backstory and it seemed like once it introduced the setting and what was going on it didn't do much with it. I thought it was decent just not great. Glad you enjoyed it more than I did.

I believe audieneces of all ages will enjoy this film. I wish they had expanded on the realtionship of Shawn Andrew Bowen and his troubled childhood/past. Love the ending.
