Comedy is one of my favorite genres. Prior to 2008, this genre was lacking truly funny films, as most of the films were too gross out for me. There are some films that made me appreciate the comedy genre, for it’s funny and entertaining at the same time. You can add this to the list of very funny comedies that came out in 2008, because at the end of this film, this was both, as I was wishing that this film were a pilot for a television series, as the lead character is very funny and entertaining enough to carry a television series.

“The Trouble with Dee Dee” is about a rich and brash single mother (Lisa Ann Walter) who has no clue to figure out what her father (Kurtwood Smith) wants from her in life. They’ve essentially haven’t gotten along for the past fifteen years. Now on the eve of her father’s retirement, he has one thing that he’s wanted to do for a while: make an upstanding woman out of this annoying and undisciplined woman. But by doing this, he is going to find out that there is more to her than he ever knew. Mason Gamble (Dennis the Menace) also co-stars in this film.

“The Trouble with Dee Dee” is a very funny and entertaining comedy. This film felt like an old school comedy. Writer/Director Mike Meiners direction was very energetic, as the humor comes off very well. He balances the humor and story by not making the main character totally obnoxious or something that would turn me off instantly. The acting was very good, as Meiners does a great job making the performances funny while focusing on the film’s subplots. Like I said, the acting in this film was very good, as Lisa Ann Walter’s performance was very funny and charismatic. She does a great job making her character very likeable while not making it repetitive or annoying. The film also has very good supporting performance from veteran character actor Kurtwood Smith, as he does a great job playing Dee Dee’s father, who’s pretty much annoyed with Dee Dee’s antics.

Meiner’s screenplay provided a lot of good humor while not getting too carried away. He does a great job making the main character very funny, while not making her very irritating, to the point that you just can’t stand her. It makes this film very entertaining. The screenplay was not just about the humor, as Meiner does great job with the film’s subplots involving Dee Dee and her troubled relationship with her father, and the fact that she refuses to grow up and take responsibility for her actions. It makes the film more entertaining and helps itself from not getting too carried away with the humor.

“The Trouble with Dee Dee” is a very funny comedy that has silly and heartwarming fun.
