Mockumentaries tend to be hit or miss films. Those films can either be filled with laughter like “Best in Show” or “Brutal Massacre: A Comedy” or it might be just be boring like “For Your Consideration”, for example. This leads me to “Gor-e-ography: The Making of Death Harmony”.

The film is about chorographer Blake Nelson, who is directing his first horror film which includes vampires, zombies, ninjas, and musical numbers. But Nelson soon realizes that making a movie is far more difficult from just choreographing a musical number. From drama in his failing marriage to onset romances to butting heads with staff over his creative vision, things always seem to go wrong for Blake. But it gets worse, when the money starts to dry up. As the drama intensifies on set and money dries up, can Blake finish the film the way he wants to or will all his problems prevent the film from being completed.

If “Death Harmony” was an actual horror film that I was reviewing, then it would have very painful to watch. Thankfully this film is a mockumentary that hits it mark.

One of the reasons that I liked how this film, the way the film was able to generate laughs and entertain me for the ninety plus minutes. Director Anthony Kilburn does a very good keep your interest through his story. One of the things that he does in his direction, he makes the film feel like an actually behind the scenes featurette that would normally would find on a Blu-ray or DVD. I liked how, some of the interview scenes are mostly interviews being conducted in one room to create that atmosphere that your watching a behind the scenes film, especially how he and his production staff created fake photos for some of the character’s back-story. It does a good job explaining the story of the some of the characters and not just relying on the dialogue alone to make it effective. It really makes the interview portion of the film seem realistic and makes the characters interesting. Another thing that I liked about the direction, the way that Kilburn is able to get his cast to have fun with their roles. It really helps make the film fun to watch and it shows in the final product.

The screenplay, what screenplay. One of the unique things about this film was the fact that this film was completely improvised with the cast following the guidelines of their characters. One of the things that Kilburn does very well with the story, he’s able set up scenes through some of the interviews and create some funny moments that are funny. He also does good job keeping the central focus of the film intact. By that I mean, he stays with the film’s main logline without going off into various directions just to make it funnier with outrageous gags at the expense of what the film central focus is suppose to be.

“Gor-e-ography: The Making of Death Harmony” is a funny mockumentary that will make you scream with laughter.

“Gor-e-ography: The Making of Death Harmony” will be having its world premiere this Thursday at the Florida Theater in Jacksonville, Florida. For Ticket and Movie information, you can visit the film’s official website at: http://www.gore-e-ography.com
