Film Review:
“Dirty Girl” is one of those indie films that you think its not going to be worth your time, but it manages to surprise you in every way. One of things that I enjoyed about this film, the direction was very good. Abe Sylvia, who directed and wrote the screenplay for this film, does a very good job making this very entertaining. He makes the material work so well, by making sure that the pace of the film moves along. I never got a sense that this film dragged on, which makes you more interested in the characters journey and that’s what you want with a film like this. Sylvia also gets the performances that is needed for the film to be entertaining. He gets the chemistry that he needs from Juno Temple and Jeremy Dogier to make the characters and their relationship work. Its an important thing that is needed for this film to work from an acting perspective. Sylvia does a very good job making the chemistry between the actors work. If your not into the journey that these characters go on, then this film most likely not work for you. The other thing that I like about Sylvia’s direction, the fact the Milla Jovovich looked alive for once and not brooding all the time, like in the “Resident Evil” films or in “Faces in the Crowd” which was the last Jovovich film that I saw. I would like to see that in future projects that she participates in, as she does a very good job here.
Sylvia also does a very good job with the screenplay aspects. One of the reasons that I liked this screenplay, the characters were quirky enough that your interested in them. He does a very job making the characters be different. It allows them to be interesting and allows the laughs to be funny. That’s something that I like personally, when watching a comedy like this. It also gets you interested with the characters and your not feeling bored, Another reason that I like this, the screenplay does a very good job developing the relationship between the main characters during the course of the film. Sylvia focus on the friendship of the main characters very well. It makes their cross country adventure interesting and entertaining that your interested in their journey. Overall, a very good film.
DVD Extras:
The first extra on the disc is the audio commentary track with director Abe Sylvia. This is a very average commentary. Sylvia does a good job giving stories on and off the set about the production of the film, as they were interesting to hear. The only problem on the track was that there were a couple of spots, where it goes dead. That hurt the track in my opinion, as it disrupted the flow of it. That what you don’t want in commentary track. After that, there’s are deleted and extended scenes. That’s it.
Final Summary:
“Dirty Girl is surprisingly one of those film that does a very keeping your interest with an entertaining story and good on screen chemistry.
