Film Synopsis:

Going into a film like this, you don’t have much expectations going in. Sometimes that’s a good thing for a film, as it can catch the view off guard to making the person like it or its just that bad to begin with. With a title like “Nude Nuns with Big Guns”, you know that your not going to get a serious film.
The film follows a nun, who is abused, brainwashed and drugged by a corrupt clergy that are running drugs and selling them. On the verge of her death, she receives a message from god to bring vengeance on those to do harm. But the clergy have other plans, as they’ve hired a gang of merciless biker to take care of her. Armed with lots of big guns, she’s out to get revenge on those who do wrong.

Film Review:

“Nude Nuns With Big Guns” was for the most part an entertaining grindhouse film. Co-Writer and Director Joseph Guzman does a very good job pushing the envelope with all of the exploitative elements that he uses. There’s a lot of over the top violence and nudity that would please a lover of grindhouse cinema. By using these elements, he’s able to give the film its the grindhouse feel that needed for it be a creditable grindhouse film. The other thing that makes his direction good, the fact that he makes sure acting fit’s the tone of the film. I liked, how Guzman made sure that the performances of the villains were over the top and his two leads very dark and mysterious. It makes the characters worth watching, instead of being turned off.
If there was one problem that I had with the direction, the fact that the pace of the film moves a slowly. With the exception of the last fifteen minutes of the film, I wished that there was more action in the film‘s set pieces, instead of filling the screen with countless nudity and quick set pieces. It would have moved the film along and made me not feel bored with the redundancy of topless nudity.

The screenplay written by Guzman and Robert James Hayes III for the most part was good. I liked, the way that they made the main character of this film more of a mysterious hero. By doing that, it makes you not feel like your watching a softcore film, instead it comes off like a grindhouse or exploitation film of the seventies. The other thing that the screenplay does a good job is with the way they use shock elements. For an exploitation film to work, you need elements that shock you. This film has those elements, as there were a couple made me cringe.

The only thing that didn’t work in the screenplay was the fact that the story moved slow at times. It was like, they were focused more on how much topless girls that they could fit in, instead of creating a story. The fact that they had character that could do that. It felt disappointing. Also, I thought some of the action sequences felt rushed and didn’t have the adrenaline that’s needed to get your blood pumping. I want to see that in an action film, with the exception of the last fifteen minutes, there was any adrenaline in the approach of those scenes. If that happened, it would added more fun to this film.

DVD Extras:

Sadly, there isn’t much here. The only features are the original short film that was the basis of the film and the film’s official trailer.

Final Summary:

“Nude Nuns with Big Gun has good premise and has enough interesting characters to make this a good time, but the film still leaves you wanting more action, which is not a good thing.
