“Porkchop” is the latest underground slasher film that has found its way onto DVD shelves. The film is a homage to the slasher films of the 1980’s, where sex and drugs ruled the horror genre.

The film is about a group of young campers, who head out to the woods for a weekend of sex, booze, and random foolishness at an abandoned summer camp. Their weekend of fun is interrupted, when a pig masked crazed killer with a chainsaw is stalking and killing the kids anyway he pleases. Who will survive this massacre? The cheerleader, the slut, the British punk rocker or the nerd with his talking robot sidekick.

When I‘m watching a film like this, I look for more than the normal aspects that goes into reviewing films. You can say that there’s an enjoyment factor that goes into some of my reviews, especially when it come horror. With that said, “Porkchop“ is one of those films that I had a good time watching.

This was a fun slasher film that has some creativity to it, from the acting and writing process. One of the things that I look for in a low budget horror film, are the death scenes are creative? This film has some very creative death scenes. Writer/director Eamon Hardiman does a very good job with being creative with some of film’s gory death scenes. There was some actual thought into the storytelling and execution of those scenes. He does a very good job in making it entertaining that it gets a response whether its positive or negative. It makes the film fun in a throwback way and not in a bad b-movie way.

Even though the acting was what you would normally expect in this kind of film, it wasn’t that bad. Hardiman does a very good job making the characters interesting, as they have personality to them. Whether they were annoying or fun to watch, I liked how he’s able to make sure that his actors and actresses brought some personality to their character. Without the personality that each of the cast brings to their characters, I would have enjoyed it less.

Hardiman’s screenplay was very creative considering that this is your normal run of the mill slasher film. One of the things that I liked about it, the characters for the most part weren’t your typical type of characters that you would see in a slasher film. You had the obnoxious British punk rocker, a cheerleader worrying that she’s pregnant and a nerd with a talking robot. If you have all those things in a horror film like this, then chances are this is going to be a bizarre film. Not here, as it works to the comedic aspects of the film. The other thing that I liked about his screenplay, the fact that he takes his time with the introduction of the character. I like slasher films that doesn’t rush the action and saves the bulk of it to half way through the film. It lets you get into the film without seeing characters getting killed off without a proper introduction.

“Porkchop” is throwback to the slasher film of 80’s lots of blood, sex, and a story that keeps you entertained
