“Rewind” is one of those films that I never had the time for, until one day when I saw the DVD cover. Only knowing that this looked like a dark film and the fact that I like watching dark films for the most past, I decided to take a chance on the film.

The film is about a recovering addict, who has a new life with a loving husband and a young daughter. Everything is going good, until her ex-boyfriend who was recently released from prison suddenly reappears in her life. Now her past has come back to haunt her, as she is forced to go with on a road trip with him. As her dark past has come back to haunt her, she has to find a way out before her life comes crumbling down.

I’m kind of glad that I took a chance with this film. It’s a very dark film that grabs your attention, even thought the film has a short running time.

One of things that I liked about “Rewind” was the way it was shot. Director/co-writer P.J. Dillion and his cinematographer Ken Byrne did a very good job making the scenes have a dreary tone to them. They do that, by making the locations feel dark. Never did I get a sense that this film was going to have a happy ending, which made me curious and interested in this film. The other thing that Dillon’s does very well, he’s able to get the performances that were needed to make this dark and dreary story work with the audience. I liked how, he was able to get his cast to make their characters interesting through their performances. There are some good performances from Allen Leech and Amy Heuberman. They both did a very good job making their character work within the dynamic of the film. It makes the characters interesting and it also make the troubled relationship work.

The screenplay written by Dillon, Ronan Carr, and Roger Kashan was good. One of the things that I liked about was the characters. The screenwriters made the characters interesting through their flaws. By doing that, it establishes the back story and makes them interesting. It made for some interesting scenes involving the main characters. They also did a good job making the dreary tone effective. They effectively do that, by putting the film’s main character in a very uncomfortable situation. It makes you care about the character. It allows the dynamic of the story work and the end result is an interesting thriller. The only problem that I had with this film, I thought the third of the film was predictable. But I’m willing to forgive that, as it made sense with the story. Sometimes predictable is good, especially when you’re into the characters.

“Rewind” is an entertaining dark thriller filled with suspense and interesting characters. It’s worth seeking the film out through VOD providers or retailers nationwide.
