The film takes place in 1945 during the closing stages of World War II. A German scientist is creating a new technology that can unleash an immortal Nazi army.
The story fast forwards into the present day, as a group of NATO soldiers are deployed to Eastern Europe. There, an enemy is killing everything in sight. The solders find out that the enemy is super human and hard to kill. Against the odds, they venture very deep behind enemy lines to uncover the source of the power and prevent the Fourth Reich from rising again.
Film Review:
This was a different type of zombie movie from what I’m usually seeing. It’s not the straight forward zombie movie with a bunch of mindless zombie that eats people up. Maybe, it was the fact that I haven’t seen the first film. Nevertheless, “Outpost: Black Sun” is an interesting film that has intense scares and very good war like scenes.
Director Steve Barker does a very good job with the way that he handles the film’s action. The action scenes helped made this film good. What Barker does well, he is able to bring intensity to all of the action scenes. I liked how those scenes kept my interest, as this film is very dark. If there weren’t enough of those very good action scenes, then this might have been different. This is one of the things that helps make the film very entertaining. The other that Barker does well, he’s able to focus on the acting. The acting was very good. I liked how Barker does a very good job of making sure that he gets the best out of his cast. The cast did a very good job making their characters interesting. It helped me care about the characters, as I was interested in them. That’s what you want, when you’re watching any kind of film.
The screenplay written by Barker and Rae Brunton does a very good job making this film very dark and intense. One of the things that I liked about the screenplay was that it created interesting characters. I liked, the fact that the main characters are developed very well. They make them very dark; so that it fits the film’s dark tone and makes you think that anything can happen to them. The other thing that this screenplay does well is create the whole war aspect of the film. The writers did a very good job making that work. Whether it’s the scenes where the soldiers are fighting the zombies or the way that everything is detailed in the look, the writers did a very job making it work with the story. It’s the main thing that helped kept my interest in this story.
Blu-Ray Extras:
Not much in the way features on this disc, as the extras are lacking. The film’s behind the scenes featurette was first. It’s a quick five minute featurette with the crew and the lead actors. It would’ve been nice to have in depth interviews with the people involved, instead the interviews are brief and doesn’t cover much. After that, sadly the disc wraps up with the film’s official trailer.
Final Summary:
“Outpost: Black Sun” surprised me, as I enjoyed this a lot. It’s a very dark film with intense action and twists that you don’t see coming.
Review Rating: Four Stars
Blu-Ray Extras: One Star.
