Welcome to the 997 the edition of my series and the last week of My Own Madness. I hope everyone had a good Halloween however celebrated. Many I know will be starting the Christmas season and if that makes them happy, so be it. I don't really have anything else going on so I'll just shut up and get on with my selections.
Nope (2022): Jordan Peele directed and wrote this sci-fi horror film. Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer star as siblings O.J. and Emerald who try to continue their late father's ranch. They are also trying to prove video evidence of a UFO that they believe it wreaking havoc on their town. Brandon Parea, Michael Wincott, Steven Yuen, Wrenn Schmidt, Keith David, Devon Graye, Terry Notary, Barbie Ferreira, Donna Mills, Osgood Perkins, Eddie Jemison, Jacob Kim, Sophia Coto, Jennifer Lafleur, Andrew Patrick Ralston, Lincoln Lambert, and many others co-star in this sci-fi film. This has elements of a few classic sci-fi films like CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, WAR OF THE WORLDS, and even SIGNS. Peele manages to make this his own and is a very compelling film to watch. It also has a good homage to classic film and television. I understand though that some might just say nope to watching this movie with it being horror and all.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024): Tim Burton directed this sequel to his '80s classic. Winona Ryder reprises her role of Lydia whose daughter Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega, accidentally opens the portal to the Afterlife. With everything going on, Lydia must turn to Beetlejuice, reprised by Michael Keaton, to help her save Astrid. Catherine O'Hara, Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti, Nick Kellington, Santiago Cabrera, Burn Gorman, Danny Devito, Mark Heenehan, and many others co-star in this sequel. I thought this was a fun continuation film years after the original. I loved Defoe's comedic performance as an Afterlife character. This is O'Hara's final live-action role before her death in 2026. This is one that the original needs to be watched in order to understand what is happening so why not make a double feature night.
Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny (2006): Liam Lynch directed this origin story film on how Tenacious D came to rise. Jack Black and Kyle Gas star as JB and KG who are a couple of slackers but find they have a lot of interest in rock and roll. They set out to find the fabled Guitar Pick of Destiny. JR Reed, Ronnie James Dio, Ned Bellamy, Fred Armisen, Kirk Ward, Troy Gentile, Amy Poehler, Tim Robbins, Dave Grohl, Ben Stiller, Amy Adams, David Koechner, Meat Loaf, John C. Reilly, Jason Segal, and many others co-star or have cameos in this rock film. This is a lot of fun with a lot of great music numbers. There are also a lot of very amusing cameos in this movie.
Gomez, the People's Choice (1965): This is my short film for the week which is technically an episode of classic sitcom THE ADDAMS FAMILY. In this episode, Gomez, played by John Astin, becomes very dismayed by the low house tax figure and feels their home is worth far more than that. Morticia, played by Carolyn Jones, gets the idea for Gomez to run for mayor. Jackie Coogan, Ted Cassidy, Marie Blake, and Parlay Baer co-star in this episode. Wednesday and Pugsley are not in this episode. It was still pretty funny to see Gomez running for a political office though. This show would lead into quite the franchise down the road for other tv and movie adaptations.
Revolt of the Zombies (1936): Victor Halperin directed this horror movie which you might guess has zombies. The short of it is that an expedition is lead into Cambodia where they look to destroy an ancient formula which turns people into zombies. Dorothy Stone, Dean Jagger, Roy D'Arcy, George Cleveland, E. Alyn Warren, Carl Stockdale, William Crowell, William Crowell, Teru Shimada, and many others co-star in this zombie horror movie. This is what it is, a zombie movie from the '30s. Should be watched for the history of the zombie genre.
The Tin Star (1957): This is my western for the week which was directed by Anthony Mann. Henry Fonda stars as former sheriff turned drifter Morgan Hickman who rolls into a dangerous western town where the sheriff has been killed. Anthony Perkins co-stars as the inexperienced acting sheriff Ben Owens who gets mentored by Hickman in hopes he can keep the job. Betsy Palmer, Michel Ray, Neville Brand, John McIntire, Mary Webster, Peter Baldwin, Richard Shannon, Lee Van Cleef, James Bell, Howard Petrie, and many others co-star in this western. Who is to say this is not a good Halloween movie to watch? This does have Norman Bates and Mrs. Voorhies. This is a pretty underrated western with Fonda and Perkins working well together.
Sweet Land (2005): Ali Selim directed this film which is based on the short story A GRAVESTONE MADE OF WHEAT. Elizabeth Reaser stars as Inge who is immigrating to Minnesota from Norway in 1920. She goes to marry the Norwegian farmer Olaf, played by Tim Guinee, in an arranged marriage. Prejudice and bureaucracy make the marriage difficult to happen. Lois Smith plays the older version of Inge who tells her story to a grandson. Patrick Heusinger, Robert Hogan, Alan Cumming, Paul Sand, Jodie Markell, Sage Kermes, John Heard, Tom Gilroy, Ned Beatty, Alex Kingston, and many others co-star in this film. This is a pretty moving story from the '20s where I guess arranged marriages still existed. The prejudice that happened was quite real.
A Day in Court (1954): This is my Italian film for the week which was directed by Steno. This is a comedy which takes place at an Italian court where judges must hear many cases. Each one is rather outrageous as well as the characters. Peppino De Filippo, Silvana Pampanini, Alberto Sordi, Sophia Loren, and many others co-star in this comedy. There is no linear plot to this and consists of short scenes of a trial and the playing of the crime. This is a pretty funny movie and deserves a look.
The Great Waldo Pepper (1975): George Roy Hill directed this film that looks at the early days of aviation set after WWI. Robert Redford stars as WWI veteran Waldo Pepper who takes up barnstorming, just google it, after the war. He soon clashes with rival barnstormer Axel Olssen, played by Bo Svenson. They finally agree to work together with the advice of Mary Beth, played by Susan Sarandon, who also takes part in their show. Bo Brundin, Geoffrey Lewis, Edward Herrman, Philip Bruns, Kelly Jean Peters, Margot Kidder, and many others co-star in this film. I really only scratched the surface of the film. It takes a look at the ups and downs of Waldo's life. The flying sequences are very well done.
Long Shot (2019): Jonathan Levine directed this political and romantic comedy. Seth Rogen stars as journalist Fred Flarsky whose free-spirited ways of journalism costs him his job. At a party, he reunites with his childhood crush Charlotte Field, played by Charlize Theron, who is now the Secretary of State and decides to start a presidential run. Charlotte likes Fred's unorthodox writing and hires him to be her speechwriter. In the process, they form a relationship but must get through differences. June Diane Raphael, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Ravi Patel, Bob Odenkirk, Andy Serkis, Randall Park, Tristan D. Lalla, Alexander Skarsgard, and many others co-star in this comedy. This is part romantic comedy, but I also feel this is a political satire on things that need to change. There are some very funny parts with a little raunch built in there. There is also a very amusing cameo from Boys II Men. Serkis also has a very amusing villainous character and shows his gift of prosthetics.
Well, that is it for this week but continue on for the last week of My Own Madness. I will be back next week for my 21-year anniversary of the blog sereis.. After that, I will be back to a biweekly format.

___________________________________________
DEAN JAGGER
Dean is not a wild card but has a couple selections to make him a category.

Evangeline is a wild card in this year's My Own Madness so anything for her counts.

Lost: Recon S6, E8 (2010, 43 minutes): Evangeline co-starred in this sci-fi series as Kate Austen which involves being lost on an island where a lot of times the title just says it all.

The Addams Family: Gomez, the People's Choice (1965, 25 minutes): Gomez runs for the mayor of his town in this episode.

Nope (2022, 130 minutes): Keke co-stars in this horror film as Emerald whose father has just died and aliens seem to be invading.
___________________________________________
LUCIO FULCI
A Day in Court (1954, 88 minutes): Lucio co-wrote this court comedy which was one of his earlier works.
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair (2004, 253 minutes): Lucio get a little tribute in the credits for those passed. This is both Kill Bill films combined with some additional footage including the animated sequence.

NICOLE EGGERT
This BAYWATCH babe is not a wild card but she has enough selections to get a category for herself. I know she has had some health issues and hope she continues to progress.
Baywatch: Coronado del Soul: Part 1 and 2 S4, E13 and E14 (1994, 95 minutes): When I was watching this show after coming home from middle school, I found I was a Nicole Eggert guy, even over Pamela Anderson. She played lifeguard Summer Quinn in this series. In this episode, some of the staff goes to San Diego to demonstrate their things and Summer gets haunted by a ghost who seems to think she is his past love.

___________________________________________
SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR
Sarah is not a wild card this year but has been in the past. I always have to make her a category at some point.
I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025, 111 minutes): This is more of a continuation of the franchise, not so much a reboot or remake. Sarah does have a cameo, I won't try to explain except the movie counts.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (2026, 108 minutes): Sarah co-stars in this sequel as Ursula Danforth who is one of a few that is after the surviving Grace and her sister. This seems a lot more violent than the first one but I was quite entertained.
Scream 2 (1997, 120 minutes): Sarah co-stars as Cici in this sequel which has a lot of discussion about sequels.
___________________________________________
SIGOURNEY WEAVER
Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025, 197 minutes): Sigourney reprises her role of Kiri in the third and so far the final part of the franchise.
The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart: Sturt's Desert Pea S1, E7 (2023, 61 minutes): This is the conclusion of the mini-series where Sigourney co-stars as June Hart. This was a very powerful conclusion and hard to watch sometimes. Alyla Browne and Alycia Debnam-Carey were very good as younger and older Alice Hart who was abused at a young age and would affect her later relationships when older.
___________________________________________
SONIA BRAGA
Sonia is not a wild card this year but I found a couple worthy selections for her to become a category.
Bacurau (2019, 131 minutes): Sonia co-stars in this Brazilian horror film as Domingas in this surreal film.
