Plot Synopsis:
A sassy parrot and a free-spirited librarian upend the well-ordered life of a solitary man.

Lyman (Jackson Hurst) is a loner, working the graveyard shift for the Courtesy Patrol. When a green parrot flies in to his trailer he becomes obsessed with finding its owner, which leads him to Fiona(Rachel Nichols). She has been eyeing Lyman from a distance and decides to help with his parrot search, whether he wants her to or not. Along with her basset hound, they set out on a quest to find the bird’s previous owners and Fiona begins to unravel the mysteries of Lyman's past. But when Fiona joins Lyman on his nightly rounds, she witnesses a reality more intense than the romantic version she had envisioned.

Also featured are Linda Emond (Julie & Julia), Buck Henry (Grumpy Old Men), two-time Tony-winner Judith Ivey (Hurlyburly, CBS's Designing Women), Erik Jensen, Matte Osian (ABC's Ugly Betty, NBC's Law & Order), Rocco Sisto (Donnie Brasco, HBO's The Sopranos) Phyllis Somerville (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), and Louis Zorich (NBC's Mad About You). Filmed in and around Santa Fe, New Mexico, A Bird of the Air was shot by Academy Award-winning cinematographer Philippe Rousselot (A River Runs Through It) with costumes by Joseph G. Aulisi (The Pink Panther, Shaft) and production design by Mark Alan Duran (To Live and Die). Sabine Hoffman (The Private Lives of Pippa Lee) is editor. Music is composed by David Majzlin. Paladin is at it again, as they have acquired another film for distribution. Last week it was " A Bird of the Air", this week is "One Fall". The company recently announced that they have acquired the indie drama for a limited theatrical release in August.

ONE FALL, a powerful story about a man who is both blessed and cursed with an unusual power, will be released by Paladin in August, it was announced by company president Mark Urman. Veteran New York-based indie producers Dean Silvers and Marlen Hecht, who number among their credits such films as “Flirting With Disaster,” “Spanking The Monkey,” “Committed,” “Wigstock,” and “Manny & Lo,” produced the film under their TeaTown Communication Group shingle. Marcus Dean Fuller, who has a string of television and theater roles to his credit, plays the leading role, wrote the original screenplay, and makes his feature directorial debut with the project.

Set in the rustic Midwestern town of One Fall, the film tells the story of a man who miraculously survived a terrible fall from a spectacular 200 foot- high precipice that is the area’s major attraction. After recovering, he abruptly abandoned friends and family and disappeared without explanation. The secret he couldn't share with them was that, while recovering, he had suddenly developed the power to heal others. Tired of running away, he returns home after a long absence and decides to use his gift-- but not altruistically. If people pay him, he will cure them. Though he appears to be doing the right thing, he is doing it for for all the wrong reasons, and risks driving away anyone who ever loved or trusted him. As his moral crisis peaks, he must figure out why he survived his fall, and what he is really meant to do with his life.

About the film, Urman says, “ONE FALL delivers a powerful message about spiritual redemption that should be of great appeal to the ever-growing audience for transformational entertainment. I have known Dean for a long time and I look forward to working with him on this project. I also look forward to introducing Marcus Dean Fuller as new and multi-talented presence on the film scene."

"Marlen and I are often solicited by first-time filmmakers,” says producer Silvers “but when we met Marcus, heard his amazing personal story, and discovered that he had actually survived the very fall depicted in his script, we knew we wanted make the film, and were convinced that no one could do a better job with the material than him. We are thrilled with how ONE FALL turned out, and with what a terrific talent Marcus proved to be."

A classically-trained actor and Yale Drama School graduate, (who is currently appearing with the renowned Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey), Fuller and his wife, Julie Fuller (also a Yale School graduate) both served as co-producers of ONE FALL, and Richard K. Smucker was executive producer.

About the film's upcoming release Fuller adds, "I think Mark and Paladin are a perfect fit for ONE FALL and I'm very excited to be working with them."

Paladin has had great success recently with Tom Shadyac’s I AM, another film with significant “mind-body-spirit” appeal that is currently in its fifth month of theatrical release. Next up for the company is LOVE ETC., the award-winning documentary by Jill Andresevic that opens in NY on July 1.

Plaldin recently send us over information that they have acquired the rights the film "A Bird of the Air", which is based on Joe Coomer's novel "The Loop". The film will hit theaters this fall.

A BIRD OF THE AIR, a new comic romance based on Joe Coomer's highly acclaimed novel, "The Loop," will be released by Paladin, it was announced by company president, Mark Urman. The film, which stars Rachel Nichols and Jackson Hurst, represents the feature film directorial debut of noted actress Margaret Whitton and is the maiden production of Tashtego Films, which she and her partners, Steven Tabakin and Warren Spector, formed in 2008. Paladin plans a fall release for the film.

Hailed as “deliciously quirky and perceptive,” by Publishers Weekly, and “impossible to resist” by The New Yorker,Coomer’s 1992 novel tells the story of Lyman (Hurst), a lovable loner whose job patrolling highways at night, aiding stranded motorists and injured animals, keeps him at a distance from other people. When an extremely rare and highly talkative parrot flies into his home one day, Lyman needs to figure out where the bird comes from and tries to decode its often cryptic and highly literary utterances. Enlisting the aid of Fiona (Nichols), a sexy librarian who is as interested in Lyman’s secrets as she is in the bird’s, the pair set off on a search that doesn’t always lead them where they think they’re going, but which gradually leads them to one another. Named one of the “Notable Books of the Year,” by The New York Times, Coomer’s novel was adapted for the screen by Roger Towne, whose credits include the film adaptation of Bernard Malamud’s “The Natural.”

Nichols, who will be seen later this summer as the female lead in “Conan the Barbarian,” just completed a season on the hit series “Criminal Minds,” and numbers among her credits such major studio releases as “Star Trek,”G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” and “Charlie Wilson’s War.” Hurst is best known as the male lead in the popular cable series, “Drop Dead Diva.” The supporting cast of A BIRD OF THE AIR includes such highly regarded performers as two time Tony-winner Judith Ivey, Linda Emond (recently on stage in Tony Kushner’s “The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide ..…” ), Buck Henry (“Heaven Can Wait,” “The Graduate”), Phyllis Somerville, (“Little Children,” “The Big C”) and, following a long absence from the screen, Anjanette Comer, who played the female lead in Tony Richardson 1965 satire“The Loved One” and who starred opposite Marlon Brando in the 1966 western, “The Appaloosa.”
