After Dark Films recently send us over information for their upcoming Syfy film "Scream of the Banshee, which will be Syfy's 200th original film to air.

Press Release:

Since 2002, Syfy viewers have experienced mutated sharks, mosquito men, alligators as big as blimps, vengeful demon moths, pterodactyls, werewolves, dragons and really, really big snakes. Plus earthquakes that split the U.S. in half, man-made volcanoes, space storms, tornados made of ice, magnetic meteors and plagues of killer locusts -- every unnatural disaster imaginable.

Now Syfy celebrates its bi-weekly assault on humanity with the premiere of its 200th Saturday Original Movie, Scream of the Banshee, on Saturday, March 26, at 9PM(ET/PT).

In Scream of the Banshee, when a college professor opens a mysterious and ornate box discovered hidden in the tunnels under her university, she and her students hear the horrifying scream of a bloodthirsty Banshee. Everyone who hears the scream is fated to die a strange and terrible death. Now the professor, her daughter and a few of her students must try to stop the Banshee. A production of After Dark Films, Scream of the Banshee stars Lauren Holly (NCIS) and Lance Henriksen (Alien).

Said Thomas Vitale, Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies: “Over the years, the growing popularity of Syfy’s original movie franchise has transformed the Syfy Saturday Original Movies into a pop culture staple. As the largest producer of original movies on television, we’re delighted to be the Saturday night viewing destination for millions of fans of independent sci-fi, creature feature and horror films.”

To mark the occasion, Syfy.com will launch March Monster Madness, the ultimate tournament to determine the king of all Syfy monsters. Thirty-two of our fun and frantic abominations, ranging from Mansquito to Sharktopus, Mega Shark to Gatoroid, and Rock Monster to Basilisk will square off, with users voting to determine the winner of each round and, ultimately, the champion of the Syfy creature pantheon. Fans will be able to see custom trading cards featuring their favorite monsters, share their votes with friends across social media platforms and enter a sweepstakes to win monster-themed prizes.

Enjoying a robust ratings surge, a Syfy Saturday Original Movie has broken the two million total viewers mark for six straight months (August-January). Overall, the movies have averaged nearly two million viewers in 2011. The most watched Saturday Original Movie ever is Lake Placid 2 (2007) with 3.2 million viewers.

Building off the success of Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For, After Dark Films, in conjunction with Lionsgate Films and SyFy/NBC-Universal, created a new brand -- AFTER DARK ORIGINALS®.

AFTER DARK ORIGINALS® (ADO®) is a series of 5 new, original, cutting edge, horror films produced specifically for release by After Dark and Lionsgate in the United States in January 2011.

Following the same format as Horrorfest, ADO® features 5 very different films spanning all types of horror in the genre. ADO® has allowed After Dark to use the vast talent base it built of the most innovative and talented filmmakers from releasing 32 films over the last four years of Horrorfest.

The goal, to create a new, better and higher quality of horror for the new decade....In Essence A NEW BRAND OF FEAR!

After Dark Films CEO Courtney Solomon announced the newest zombie feature, RE-KILL, written by Mike Hurst (Hardwired, Ninja) and directed by Val Milev. Roger Cross (The Day The Earth Stood Still), Jesse Garcia(Quinceanera), and Daniella Alonso (Wrong Turn 2, The Hills Have Eyes II) star. The film, produced as part of the AFTER DARK ORIGINALS “A New Brand of Fear” series, was originally intended for release in this year’s January 28th theatrical festival, but producers say RE-KILL has shown so much promise that it is being pulled from the festival, and will most likely enjoy a wider theatrical release, on it’s own, later this year.

Solomon said, "The original reason we made these films was to give filmmakers a chance to shine while participating in the “Originals” film festival. By making a great film they open the door giving that film a chance to be released on a wider basis. It's only a good thing for everyone if this happens".

Re-Kill, from Producer Courtney Solomon, and Executive Producers Stephanie Caleb, Allan Zeman and Moshe Diamont was shot in Bulgaria and is currently in post-production. Syfy recently announced that it will join forces with After Dark Films, the independent production company behind the annual Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For, to produce two films for the channel’s popular Saturday Original Movie franchise.

The first After Dark-Syfy co-production is Scream of the Banshee, starring Lauren Holly(NCIS) and Lance Henriksen (Aliens). The film, directed by Steven C. Miller (Automaton Transfusion), is scheduled to premiere on Syfy in 2011. Holly plays an archeology professor who unearths a dangerous artifact, unwittingly releasing a creature that is able to kill with the power of its bone-splitting scream.

In addition, After Dark Films and Syfy have developed the Original Movie 51 to be directed by Jason Connery (The Devil’s Tomb). The film chronicles what happens after political pressure from the American public forces the Air Force to decide to allow a select few well-known reporters limited access to the most secretive base on the planet: Area 51. But when one of the base's hidden "long term visitors" exploits this unprecedented visit as a chance to liberate himself and his fellow alien captives, Area 51 turns from a secure government base to a horrifying destination of terror.

Since October 2007, Syfy has celebrated After Dark’s 8 Films To Die For event by premiering some of the festival’s top movies. In October 2010 Syfy will showcase the latest groundbreaking films from the Horrorfest 4 line-up.

In making the announcement, Thomas Vitale, Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies, Syfy, said: “We’ve aired nearly 20 After Dark acquired movies, which have played very well with our viewers. Because of After Dark’s strong branding, effective production values and understanding of the audience, we are excited to expand our relationship with the company by developing and commissioning new Saturday Original Movies with the After Dark team.”

After Dark Films CEO Courtney Solomon announced the first of eight movies in the AFTER DARK ORIGINALS series in partnership with Lionsgate & Syfy, and in association with Dobre Films. A new take on a classic creature, PROWL is written by Tim Tori (Hysteria, Trespassers) and directed by Patrik Syversen (Manhunt). Bruce Payne (Bernard), Courtney Hope (Amber), and Saxon Trainor (Veronica) star.

"Amber dreams of escaping her small town and persuades her friends to accompany her apartment-hunting in the big city. When their transportation breaks down, Amber and friends gratefully accept a ride in the back of a semi. But when the driver refuses to stop and they discover the cargo is cartons of blood, they panic. Soon, panic turns to terror when the truck disgorges into a dark, abandoned warehouse where blood-thirsty creatures learn to hunt human prey, which the friends realize is what they have now become...”

Prowl was Executive Produced by Courtney Solomon and produced by Chris Milburn, Borislav Ranghelov, Lucy Mukerjee, Michael Klein, Christopher D’Elia & Zachary Bryan as a United Kingdom/Bulgarian co-production. Release dates for all eight After Dark Originals are scheduled for Fall, 2010.

"Dobré Films jumped at the opportunity to produce PROWL with a company that has set the bar for branding and creating unique and great horror films. PROWL and all the new Originals will be a great addition to an already celebrated brand and won't disappoint" states Dobré Films CEO Christopher D'Elia.

The 8 Originals represent After Dark’s unwavering commitment to emerging writers and directors as the focus of its creative vision. The creation of the Originals slate is yet another example of After Dark’s belief in the economics and artistry of independent film production.
