Press Release:
Anchor Bay Entertainment and RADiUS-TWC present the DVD release of writer-director Stacie Passon’s debut film, CONCUSSION. The film just received a 2014 Film Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best First Feature (director Passon and producer Rose Troche), as well as two 2013 Gotham Independent Film Award nominations for the Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director Award (Passon) and Breakthrough Actor Award (Robin Weigert). A Grand Jury Prize nominee at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, CONCUSSION will be available on DVD on January 28, 2014 for an SRP of $24.98.
An impressive cast, including Robin Weigert (The Sessions, “Sons of Anarchy,” “Deadwood”), Maggie Siff (“Sons of Anarchy,” Funny People), Johnathan Tchaikovsky (Reservation Road), Janel Moloney (“The West Wing”) and Ben Shankmen (Blue Valentine, “Angels in America”), spin this contemporary tale of a woman’s emotional epiphany and sexual awakening.
Abby (Robin Weigert) may have a loving family and all of the creature comforts in life, but even so, she can't fight a growing feeling of discontent. That all changes the day a speeding baseball smacks into Abby’s skull causing a concussion and unleashing her latent sexuality that sends her on an erotic journey. She is prompted to acquire a pied-a-terre in Manhattan and works as a high-class escort while keeping her sordid new career a carefully guarded secret from her unsuspecting family.
The Playlist remarked, “Weigert's full range of emotion is quite staggering: she can be funny, maternal, and flirty all at once, and in a film that relies on her so greatly, she is endlessly watchable,” while Blu-ray.com commented, “It's an unexpected deviation from the norm, sold with intelligence and intimacy.” CONCUSSION recently made Indiewire’s list of the “10 LGBT Films You Should See” on last summer’s LGBT film festival circuit.

Press Release:
Anchor Bay Entertainment and RADiUS- TWC announced today the Blu-ray™ and DVD release of the gripping psychological thriller, 6 SOULS. From the producers of The Ring, 6 SOULS stars multiple-Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe® Award winner Julianne Moore (HBO’s Game Change, Magnolia), and Golden Globe® Award winners Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Showtime’s “The Tudors,” Bend It Like Beckham) and Frances Conroy (HBO’s “Six Feet Under,” The Aviator). Written by Michael Cooney (Identity) and co-directed by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein (Storm), 6 SOULS heads to retail on July 2, 2013 for an SRP of $29.99 for the Blu-ray™ and $24.98 for the DVD.
After the death of her husband, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Cara Harding’s (Julianne Mooore) faith in God has been shaken, but not her belief in science. In an attempt to open her up to accepting unexplainable psychiatric theories, her father introduces her to Adam (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), a patient with multiple personalities, who takes on some of the physical characteristics of his other personalities. Cara quickly discovers that Adam’s personalities are murder victims, and the more she finds out about him and his past, the closer she and her loved ones are to becoming murder victims themselves.
“Moore is absolutely terrific as Cara Harding, maintaining a dedicated, delicate portrayal of the doctor’s internal debate even when confronted with the unexplainable,” said Ken Hanley of Fangoria. “Chills in the film range from the psychological to supernatural, brought about by seasoned performers who know how to sell a thrill,” added Jake Dee of ArrowInTheHead.com. “Rhys Meyers alters transition with a creepy, violent snap back of the neck before coming to with complete clarity as a new soul.”
6 SOULS also stars Jeffrey DeMunn (Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile), Nathan Corddry (The Ugly Truth, The Invention of Lying), Brooklynn Proulx (Brokeback Mountain), and Brian Anthony Wilson (Law Abiding Citizen, Limitless).
"Lay the Favorite" Blu-Ray Review - Written by Anthony T

Film Review:
I might be the only one that actually liked this film, as I’ve heard a lot of bad review for this one.. Going into this film, I thought this would end up like Radius-TWC's last film "Butter". A film where a lot of big name talents got together to phone in their performances and had a good time in the process. But I'm very surprised, this film wasn't like that. I'm very thankful that "Lay the Favorite" was actually a good film with solid performances that I enjoyed.
One of the main reasons for that was Stephen Fears' direction. What I liked about the direction was the fact that he carefully made sure that everything worked well on screen. Whether it’s the way the scenes were carefully set-up and shot to the way that they are captured on film, Fears does a good job making the scenes work. It's important to do that to keep the viewer interest. The other thing that made the direction good was the way the acting was handled. Fears does a very good job making sure that the cast made their characters interesting. It adds to the quirkiness that I liked about this film.
Speaking of the acting, I thought Rebecca Hall was very good, as the film's lead. She made the character interesting, by giving the character a very quirky personality that keeps you watching. It also made the film and the performance fun to watch. The film also has good supporting performances from Bruce Willis, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Vince Vaughn in an uncredited performance.
The screenplay was written by the film's producer D.W. DeVincentis was good. One of the things that makes it good was the way the dialogue was written. It had a quirkiness to it. Whether it’s coming from the main character to some of the supporting characters, it had that kind of tone where it kept me interested and created some funny moments. The other thing that makes it work was the character development. DeVincentis does a good job following the main character through the underworld of gambling and how it never changed her. It made the story interesting and it didn't lose its quirky tone.
Blu-Ray Extras:
Sadly, there isn't much in the way of extras. The only extra on this disc were seven minutes of deleted scenes. It would have been nice to have had extras on the making of this film. It would've added something to the disc.
Final Summary:
"Lay the Favorites" is a nice film filled with good performances and good direction from Stephen Fears. It's a film that you should take a chance with even though it hasn’t receive many positive reviews.
Review Rating: Three and a Half Stars
Blu-Ray Extras: One Star
