Summer School is about a kid named Charlie, who runs a website devoted to movie reviews of some of the most macabre films out there in the horror genre. Well one night, he decides to have a movie marathon to catch up on his reviews. The next day, he walks into the first of summer school all tired, as he can’t stay focus, as his mind begins to wonder off. Soon, he thinks that he’s in a world of horrific nightmare and sadistic violence. It starts to test his insanity, as he doesn’t know if what is happening real, or is he really questioning his sanity as this devotion to horror films is starting to get to him?

Will somebody tell me why this film hasn’t found any sort of major distribution yet? It was coming into the film expecting a campy horror film; instead Summer School is a one of the most fun and scariest films of the year. Directors Ben Trandem, Lance Hendrickson, Steven Rhoden, Troy McCall, and Mike P. Nelson do a great job making each of the films fun and frightening. You could easily see that these people were influenced from many of these classic horror films. Each little film within the film had a different element, like one film was an occult film and the next was a creature feature and so on. All the short films within the movie felt like a very good grindhouse collection. The acting was surprisingly very good for this type of film, as the actors had to play different types of the same character, in each of the stories, which made the film fun to watch.

The screenplay written by Hendrickson, Nelson, Rhoden, Trandem, and Pa Chia Thao was very good. The screenplay does a very good job developing and setting up the main character, as they make him so likeable. This screenplay also pays a lot of homage of to the old creature feature and grindhouse horror films of the past. This film was also very scary. They do a great job adding scares to this film, as there were a couple of good ones. That’s one of things that helped made it different from what I was expecting. The writers also transition from story to story very well, as there’s not much downtime from one story to another. The action never stops, but it’s a good thing here. It helps the film and the story become more fun to watch, as it helps the film not become too campy or not too serious. Amidst all that, this film also had funny moments, as they did a good job adding humor. The writers put it there, so that you, the viewer are having a fun time watching. And yes, I had a fun time watching this film.

Summer School will make you have a fun time watching the misadventure of this film geek. This film definitely gets an A+ from me.
