After years of fighting, vampires and humans come to a truce-with the vamps getting the short end of the stick. Relegated to second class citizens, they are forced to live in ghettos and microchipped to track their movements. Adding insult to injury, they also must get their blood from specially sanctioned government blood banks.

Although the Hunters have officially disbanded, Jonathan Sloan and his small crew of ex-Hunters track down “illegals” trying to uncover a conspiracy of a vampire cabal that plans on overthrowing the government and returning the vampires back to their former glory.

Jonathan must also come to grips with his past and decide where his loyalties lie in dealing with his feelings for Perrey, the love of his life...a vampire.

Afraid Of Sunrise is a vampire film that gets back to the basics but also provides a different take on the vampire legend. "Our vampires don't sparkle" was the war cry while making the movie. "It's a return to form for the genre", writer/producer and star Andy Schatner states. "We've made a more brutal, realistic film about vampires. Our vampires don't sit and talk about their feelings. They're dangerous. They will kill you in a heartbeat."

Afraid Of Sunrise also provides social commentary about the encroaching police state and surveillance society which sadly, the United States has become over the past decade. "I've definitely put some of my politics in this film-some observations very in your face but mostly in a subtle way. We want people to have a fun ride while watching the movie but at the same time make them think about some things when the film is done." Another theme of the movie is ones nature. "The film makes a point to show that you can't go against your nature. Who you are at the core is something that can't change. It's why the relationship between Jonathan (a Hunter) and Perrey (a vampire) ultimately does not work. He's human. She' a vampire. It's as simple as that."

Afraid Of Sunrise is a short film based on the feature length screenplay Afraid Of Sunlight that Schatner wrote ten years ago. The goal is to use the short as a commercial to secure funding for a feature or to outright sell the script to a studio. The film will also stand on its own as a complete and separate work. With the amount of footage shot, there is a chance the film could be expanded to a "short" feature.

The film was directed by Belvidere, IL native Justin R. Romine with cinematography by Milwaukee resident Don Ford and stars mostly Chicago talent. Cast members include Andy Schatner, Jeff Award winner Daniel Kuhlman, Heather Dorff, Cathleen Hennon, Kris Desautels, Scott Lynch-Giddings, David Goodloe, Ivan Calderon, Tom Lodewyck and up and coming "Scream Queen" Deneen Melody with cameos by L.A. actress Marie Lynn and independent filmmaker Joe Hollow who is also an associate producer on the project.
