When I heard the news that Full Moon was making a fourth “Killjoy” film with mostly the same cast and director, I was not interested at all. But after seeing the trailer and various stills of the film, I have to say it generated enough of my interest that I’m reviewing it for this site.
The fourth film picks up where the last film left off. After not claiming all of his victims from the last film, Killjoy (Trent Hagga) is sent to hell to go on trial and face the devil himself. He must prove to him and himself that he’s an evil demon that takes the souls of the people that summons him. The only way that Killjoy can get out of this mess is with the help of his demonic friends Batty Boop, Punchy,
Freakshow and the surviving victim that he tormented in the last film. Killjoy and his friends must find a way to plot a daring rescue attempt to break out of hell. Only problem is, they have deal with meddlesome detectives, renegade clowns and a mess of other demons. If they don’t succeed, they will suffer a fate worse than hell.
Going into this film, I thought I was going to have the same problem watching this film like I had with “Killjoy’s Revenge”. I was so wrong about this film, as I really enjoyed this film more than the last one.
Writer/director John Lechgo, who also directed and wrote the screenplay for the last film, does a good job making his story and his direction quite well. One of the things that I liked about the direction, he does a very good job making the action and the building up to it. Even though, the direction was good in the last film, I thought everything felt better. The effects were better and the action sequences were much better. Maybe it was the fact that was different from the last film. That’s a good thing, as I interested in this film. The acting here was also good. Trent Hagga is always good in any film that he appears in, but I thought he took the character another level here. The way he delivers the lines sounds much funnier and more entertaining than the last film. It’s also probably the fact that he had better script to work with.
The screenplay was much improved, as I thought that was the downfall of the last film. Lechago does very good job coming up with a story that has humor and some crazy moments. I liked, how he focuses on the aftermath and goes in a different direction with the two main characters from the last film. It makes the film interesting and makes you forgive the mistakes of the last film. I enjoyed this story a lot better. I also liked, how Lechago decided to write a screenplay that focuses more on playing for laughs than making a serious horror film. He does that, by making the film’s tone less serious. It provides for crazier scenes that keep you entertained.
“Killjoy Goes to Hell, is a much improved from “Killjoy 3”. The film has a better screenplay and improves on the direction of the last film. Check this film out, if you’re looking for an entertaining horror film.
Review Rating: Four Stars.
