Magic Stone Productions (Magic Stone) and Shark Films are excited to announce that their new comedy, Zero Charisma, will world premiere at the 26th annual South By Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. The film, directed by Andrew Matthews and Katie Graham and penned by Matthews, is an indie-comedy about an obsessive fantasy nerd who gradually becomes unhinged when a charismatic hipster joins his role-playing game.

Graham and Matthews are SXSW alums; they served as Director of Photography and Editor, respectively, for the award-winning documentary Best Worst Movie, which premiered at SXSW in 2009. They performed the same roles for the 2012 documentary The American Scream, which premiered at Fantastic Fest.

Zero Charisma stars Sam Eidson (Natural Selection; My Sucky Teen Romance) as Scott, a fantasy gamer who struggles to defend his tabletop turf from an interloping neo-nerd hipster, Miles, played by Garrett Graham. Caught in delusions of grandeur, Scott takes extreme measures to reclaim his spot at the head of the table and re-establish his identity as the Game Master.

"We're ecstatic to have the world premiere of Zero Charisma at SXSW," said directors Katie Graham and Andrew Matthews, who also penned the film. "As members of the Austin film community and longtime fans of the festival, we couldn't be more excited to be finally attending as directors."

Zero Charisma originally gained attention through an IndieGoGo campaign launched by the filmmakers in 2011. It surpassed its goal and raised $25,000 in under 30 days. At the same time, the Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund awarded the film a $5,000 production grant. It was shot in Austin, TX over three weeks in the spring of 2012.

The filmmakers are currently doing a final round of fundraising through IndieGoGo with a first look teaser trailer of the film. The trailer and campaign can be seen at http://www.indiegogo.com/zerocharismathemovie

Plot Synopsis:

Metal-loving gamer geek Scott Weidemeyer lives with his ornery grandmother and works a lousy job at a donut shop. But every Tuesday night, he is the omnipotent Game Master, guiding his role-players through a tabletop journey of fantasy and adventure. However, when neo-nerd hipster Miles joins his game, Scott begins to resent the admiration Miles receives from the other players. To make matters worse, the health of his grandmother begins to falter, and his estranged mother visits town, reminding Scott of a childhood he'd just as soon forget. Caught in a spiral of rage and delusion, Scott is forced to take drastic steps to reclaim his honor, and his identity as the Game Master.
