Nominations for the 2012 Fright Meter Awards have been announced. The Cabin in the Woods leads the nominations with ten, including Best Horror Movie, Best Director, and Best Ensemble Cast. The winners will be announced on the official Fright Meter Awards website (www.frightmeterawards.com) on January 12th, 2013.

Now in their sixth year, The Fright Meter Awards are presented annually by the Fright Meter Awards Committee, an organization dedicated solely to honoring and recognizing excellence within the horror genre. The nominations and winners are determined by members of the Fright Meter Awards Committee.

This 30 member committee consists of horror fans, bloggers, actors, producers, directors, and others involved in the industry. The passion of the Fright Meter Awards Committee makes this award truly prestigious, as all honorees are selected and nominated regardless of budget, means of release, or popularity. An award for the horror community by the horror community.

For the first time, the Fright Meter Awards are scheduled to be presented live at the New Orleans Horror Film Festival in September, 2013.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has send us over stills for their upcoming Blu-Ray release "Dentention" which hits DVD and Blu-Ray on Tuesday. The film stats Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) Dane Cook (Good Luck Chuck) and Spencer Locke (Resident Evil: Extinction).

Plot Synopsis:

Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook and Spencer Locke star in Detention, a hipster, teen horror-comedy where the local students of Grizzly Lake must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is Cinderhella, a slasher-movie killer who has seemingly come to life and is preying on the school’s student body. Samuel Goldwyn Films has recently send us over the official trailer for their upcoming horror comedy "Detention". The film was an official selection to the 2011 SXSW film festival. The cast for this film includes Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island), Shanley Caswell (Snow White: A Deadly Summer), Spencer Locke (Resident Evil: Extinction), and Dane Cook (Employee of the Month, Good Luck Chuck). The film will be released in limited release on April 13th.

American World Pictures (AWP), a Los Angeles based independent motion picture distribution and production company, and Take 2 Releasing, a division of Palisades Tartan will release “Detention” starring the late David Carradine, Billy Aaron Brown, Thomas Calabro , Zelda Williams, Rachel Sterling, Preston Jones, Lil J, Michael Mitchell and Maitland McConnell will be released on DVD June 14th.

Plot Synopsis:

A group of high school students are sent to after-school detention for unexplained reasons. There, the teenagers find themselves abandoned and locked in the classroom after their detention teacher leaves, then mysteriously disappears. With night slowly approaching, a thunder storm builds outside. The heavy rain and lightning cause a massive power failure throwing the school into total darkness. Then, strange, haunting images of ghosts begin to appear in the school. The kids manage to break out of the classroom only to find that the old building has taken on a life of its own, keeping them trapped inside. As they struggle to escape, the teenagers learn about the death of a student back in the 1970s. Slowly, they unravel the history of this tragedy and that they are somehow connected to the student’s macabre and untimely death. They will also soon find out that they are being held responsible for this horrific event of the past, and will pay for it with their lives!
