Satan Hates You
Year: 2010
Director: James Felix McKenney
Stars: Don Wood, Christine Spence, Angus Scrimm
Studio: Danger After Dark / Glass Eye Pix
MPAA Rating: Not Rated
Running Time: 95 Mins

"Satan Hates You" is a throwback film to the Christian scare films of the past. The film follows two people. Marc (Don Wood) is a homicidal maniac that has many demons that are haunting him deep inside his soul. Those demons causes him to murder people, when he’s angry. Wendy (Christine Spencer) is living life on the fast lane, by taking drugs and partying all night without thought to what she is doing to herself. Soon, they will cross paths on the road to salvation or the highway to hell.
"Satan Hates You" boast an all stat cast that includes Angus Scrimm (Phantasm), Reggie Bannister (Phantasm) Debbie Rochon (Tromeo and Juliet) Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes) and Larry Fessenden (I Sell the Dead).

"Satan Hates You is one of those films that shocks the hell out of you through storytelling. Writer/Director James Felix McKenney does a very good job making this film very effective given the subject matter. One of the things that I like about his direction, he was able to make the various scenes in the film shocking through the film's dark imagery and gore. There was plenty of it in this film. What McKenney is able to do is able to generate some uneasiness to what's going on. That's what makes the film very different from the standard fare. The other thing that makes the direction of this film work, the performances were very good. McKenney does a very good job getting the lead performances to work, as I truly liked Don Wood’s and Christine Spencer's performances In making those performances work so well, you forget that the likes of Michael Berryman, Debbie Rochon and Angus Scrimm are in this film.

McKenney's screenplay does a very good job of being different from many horror films that are out there today. One of the things that I liked about his screenplay, the fact that the story shocks the hell out of you. McKenney's does a very good job separating his main characters from each other until the very end. It allows him to explore each of the characters decent into madness without them intersecting each other. It doesn't lead to any confusion to the film or the material at hand. The other thing that I liked about the screenplay was the fact that it leaves you with an uneasy feeling. In shock films, you have to maintain a level of uneasiness for the material to be shocking. This film does it very well through the various situations that the main characters are placed in. All this to leads to a shocking conclusion that's needed for this type of film.

DVD Extras:

The first extra on the DVD in "The Making of Satan Hates You". The twenty-two minute featurette has a lot of behind the scenes footage on the production of the film with an on-set interview with McKenney. It would have been nice, if the featurette had comments from the lead actors. The only actor that was interview for this featurette was Debbie Rochon, but that was only for a minute. I liked how you get the director’s perspective of the film, but it could have used more perspective from the acting side of things.

After that there isn't much in the way of extras. First, there's 13 TV segments from the film that are played in it's entirety. After that, there’s a creepy and weird three minute short that the director did back in 2006 called December 23rd. Finally, the film's official trailer wraps up the extras on the disc.

Final Summary:

If you looking for an alternative to all the horror films that are out there, then this is the film for you. “Satan Hate You” is a excellent horror film that does great job keeping your interest, while providing some shocking moments .
