“Wrong” is a film that I’ve been looking forward to, since I first heard about it through various sites. It’s Quentin Dupieux’s follow up to the very entertaining killer tire film “Rubber”. This was one of those films that I had high expectations considering that “Rubber” was insanely good.

The film follows Dolph Springer (Jack Plotnick), who awakens one morning to find that his beloved dog has gone missing. Desperate to find him, he sets out to look for him. During his search for the dog, he ends up spiraling to the realm of the very absurd. He has deal with some very bizarre people including a promiscuous pizza girl (Alexis Dziena) a mentally unstable neighbor, a French Mexican Gardner, a unconventional pet detective (Steve Little) and the mysterious Master Chang (William Fintcher) who tries to teach him to communicate telepathically to his pet. A lot of very odd characters, if you ask me.

With “Rubber and now “Wrong”, Quentin Dupieux is quickly becoming one of my favorite directors. His two films so far have been so off beat and very different from what you see from many directors today. It makes Michel Gondry’s films before “The Green Hornet” look like mainstream films. If I had to choose which film that I liked the most of Dupieux’ two films so far, “Wrong” would take it easily.

One of the reasons for it was Dupieux’s direction. He does a very good job making sure how each and every shot looked very crisp. Dupieux makes sure each of the scenes look very strange and odd like. It made the look of the film stand out and made all of the strange scenarios work well on the screen. It never felt like you watched the same scene over. The other things that I liked about the direction was the way he manages to make the performances stand out from another. Dupieux does a very good job making sure his cast brought some personality to their characters. It helped made this strange universe work so well, as the actors did a very good job making their characters very odd and eccentric. It added some strange humor to the film, which made it fun to watch.

Dupieux’s screenplay is also far more superior then his previous film. What I liked about this screenplay was that he’s able to come up with some fresh that you haven’t seen before. Dupieux’s story is very well thought and well executed. The reason for that is the way that he comes up with these strange scenarios and make them look very odd and funny. It also helped made the story work so well that you’re having a good time. The other thing that makes the screenplay work for me was the way that Dupieux’s characters were written. Each of the film’s characters come off as very strange and eccentric. It helps with some of the film’s funny part, as the strangeness and oddness helps advance those scenes. Also, it made the characters stand out from one another. It’s what made this film fun.

This is one of the strangest films that you’ll see all year, but it’s also one of the funniest films of the year so far. I’m have to say, “Wrong” is an early contender for the best films of 2013. I highly suggest you check this film out, if you’re into offbeat eccentric films like this. It’s funnier than most of the comedies out in theaters right now.

“Wrong” opens in limited release today and is also available through various VOD providers.
Review Rating: Five Stars

Drafthouse Films has send us over the official trailer and first clip for the upcoming release of "Wrong". The film is the latest from "Rubber" director Quentin Dupieux and stars Jack Plotnick (Reno 911, Rubber), Alexis Dziena (Entourage) and William Fichtner. "Wrong" is available now through various VOD providers and hits theaters in limited release March 29th

Plot Synopsis:

Dolph Springer (Reno 911's Jack Plotnick) awakens one morning to find he has lost the sole love of his life - his do, Paul. Desperate to reunite with his best friend and to set things right, Dolph embarks on a journey which spirals into the realm of the absurd. On quest, he drastically alters the lives of several severely bizarro characters, including a promiscuous pizza delivery girl (Entourage's Alexis Dzienza), a mentally unstable, jogging- addicted neighbor, an opportunistic French-Mexican gardener, an eccentric pet detective (Steve Little of HBO's Eastbound And Down) and most mysterious of all, an enigmatic pony-tailed guru, Master Chang (William Fichtner) who imparts his teachings to Dolph on how to metaphysically reconnect with the pet. From fearless cinematic surrealist Quentin Dupieux, the director behind the head-exploding Rubber, Wrong is an entrancing and wholly original hallucinatory universe all its own, which TwitchFilm calls "a wild and hilarious ride of absurdity!"

Press Release:

Drafthouse Films, the film distribution arm of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, announced their acquisition of North American rights to Wrong, the new feature film from electronic musician-turned-director/writer/editor/cinematographer/composer Quentin Dupieux. Wrong is a willfully surreal comedy, which made its world premiere at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, about a man's frantic search for his kidnapped dog and the strange characters he encounters along the way. A limited theatrical and VOD release is planned for 2013. Fans can download two tracks for free from the album's soundtrack (available August 27 from Because Music) co-composed by Mr. Oizo (Dupieux's musical nom de plume) and Tahiti Boy here: http://t.opsp.in/g05dU .

Dupieux's acclaimed 2010 Cannes Film Festival hit Rubber earned international media attention for its bold premise about a homicidal tire with head-exploding telekinetic abilities. Wrong takes place in an equally entrancing and hilariously hallucinatory universe all its own. Dolph Springer (Jack Plotnick of Reno 911) wakes up one morning to find that his beloved dog Paul has vanished. In a desperate attempt to get Paul (and his life) back, Dolph must embark on a spiritual journey guided by enigmatic pony-tailed guru Master Chang (William Fichtner) to metaphysically reconnect with his pet. On his quest, Dolph encounters a series of characters whose lives he drastically alters including a promiscuous pizza delivery girl, a jogging-addicted neighbor, an opportunistic French-Mexican gardener, and an eccentric pet detective (Steve Little, Eastbound And Down).

Dupieux's absurdly comic world is uncompromisingly unusual, breaking almost every known narrative cinematic convention and culminating in what critics champion as "textbook surrealism...definitely worth your attention," (io9.com). It's "Groundhogs Day remade by Luis Buñuel," (Indiewire). More candidly, "Wrong will melt your f###ing brain into ice cream," (JoBlo).

"I love dogs and I am fascinated by the relationship between people and dogs," says Dupieux. "I get along with dogs better than I do with people! Wrong is an homage to this special love between people and dogs."

"Wrong's demented universe is a perfect fit for our brand of artfully unusual films," says Drafthouse Films founder/CEO Tim League, "and Quentin proves once again that he is one of contemporary cinema's true fearless visionaries who refuses to play by the rules."

The deal was negotiated by Drafthouse Films COO James Shapiro and Chris Perez on behalf of Drafthouse Films, Producer Gregory Bernard and Michael Donaldson of Donaldson & Callif on behalf of Rubber Films and Realitism Films.

This is one of the film I'm looking forward to, when it hits stateside. I'm talking about "Wrong", the latest film from "Rubber" director Quentin Dupieux.

Realitism Films recently released stills for the film. The film starring Jack Plotnick, Steve Little, Eric Judor, William Fichtner, Alexis Dziena will be making its Canadian premiere tonight at the Concordia Hall Theatre. Showtime is 9:55PM.

Plot Synopsis:

Waking up at the literally impossible hour of 7:60AM, Dolph (Jack Plotnick) discovers that his beloved dog Paul has gone missing. Unable to function, he grasps at straws to continue his “normal” daily routines — we’ll spoil none of them here! Dolph eventually has no choice but to face the obvious. Paul has been kidnapped! Desperate to be reunited with his doggie, he enlists the aid of private detective Ronnie (the inimitable Steve Little, turning in an even more eccentric performance here than in either THE CATHECHISM CATACLYSM or "Eastbound and Down"!), blowing open the doors to revelations and happenings too insane for words. Let’s leave it at that!
