Press Release:
In 1978, Compass International Pictures released an indie horror film by an up and coming director and a largely unknown cast. Presented by the late Moustapha Akkad, the film cost $325,000 and ended up not only becoming one of the most successful independent motion pictures of its time, but single handedly created the genre of the modern horror film along with the first iconic (via a painted-over William Shatner mask) cinematic slasher!
Its global success spawned seven sequels, a reboot directed by Rob Zombie and a sequel-to-the-reboot, as well as created generations of grateful fans. The director’s name is John Carpenter and the film was Halloween. This year marks the 35th Anniversary of the timeless thriller and to celebrate, Anchor Bay Entertainment is bringing back the terrifying original as it’s never been seen or heard before!
Anchor Bay Entertainment and Trancas International proudly announce the September 24th release of the 35th Anniversary Blu-ray™ release of Halloween. For this very special release, Anchor Bay and Trancas went back to the vaults to present this legendary terror classic as never before, including creating an all-new HD transfer personally supervised by the film’s original cinematographer, Academy-Award® nominee Dean Cundey (Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Apollo 13, the Back to the Future trilogy), a new 7.1 audio mix (as well as the original mono audio), a brand-new feature length audio commentary by writer/director John Carpenter and star Jamie Lee Curtis, an all-new bonus feature with Ms. Curtis, as well as selected legacy bonus features from previous ABE releases. Available in a collectible limited-edition book-style package (available only for the first printing) with 20 pages featuring archival photos, an essay by Halloween historian Stef Hutchinson and specially commissioned cover art by Jay Shaw, SRP is $34.99 and pre-book is August 28.
“Anchor Bay Entertainment has been home to Halloween for almost 20 years,” noted Malek Akkad, President of Trancas International Films and son of Moustapha Akkad. “I’m so happy that we’re partnering with them to present the definitive edition of what is widely acknowledged as one of the seminal horror films of the 20th century.”
Halloween stars Jamie Lee Curtis (A Fish Called Wanda, True Lies) in her debut role. Anyone who’s ever watched a horror film in the last 35 years knows the story of Michael Myers, who as a child, butchered his sister with a kitchen knife. Committed to a mental institution and watched over by Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance, Halloween II, IV & V, Fantastic Voyage), he engineers his escape 15 years later, returning to his hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois on Halloween night to terrorize anyone who gets in his way, including babysitter Laurie Strode (Curtis).
Co-starring P.J. Soles (Carrie, Stripes, Rock ‘n Roll High School), Kyle Richards (The Watcher in the Woods, Eaten Alive), Nancy Loomis (Carpenter’s Assault On Precinct 13, The Fog), Charles Cyphers (Escape From New York, The Fog) and Brian Andrews (The Great Santini, Three O’Clock High), Halloween also cemented the careers of many behind the camera including Carpenter, Cundey, producer Debra Hill and film editor/production designer Tommy Lee Wallace (Halloween III: Season of the Witch, “It”).

Apollo 18
Year: 2011
Director: Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego
Stars: Warren Christie, Lloyd Owen, Ryan Robbins
Studio: Anchor Bay Entertainment / Dimension Films
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Running Time: 87 Mins
Plot Synopsis:
When I heard the news and the trailers surrounding this film, I was actually going to see “Apollo 18” in theaters. All those plans change, when every reviews were hammering this film. Now the film has hit DVD and Blu-ray.
This found footage film centers around December of 1974. Two astronauts are sent a secret mission, by the U.S. Department of Defense. The two are sent to the moon on what they think is going to be a routine mission to shoot footage of the moon with a 16mm camera. But soon, the astronauts will realize that they are not alone. While NASA denies that all the footage is real, most think that this is the reason that there hasn’t been any more moon landings.
Film Review:
Man, talk about what a wasted opportunity. That’s what I thought after watching “Apollo 18” The direction was there, but talk about a very dull screenplay and uninteresting characters. Director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego does a very good job with making the film fit the time period that it takes place. He does that, by filming it in16 mm. It helps sell the fact that it’s a found footage film and gives the film its authentic feel for the time period, in which the film takes place. You want to that to sell the fact that it came from the sixties and that was done here. The acting here was dull for most of the fillm until the last fifteen minutes. For that, I’m not faulting Lopez-Gallego that much. It’s not his fault that the characters, in the screenplay don’t have any personality. Would I like to see him have the chance to direct another film? Yes. I truly think that he can make a good film, but he needs to chose his projects wisely.
Now comes the part of the review, where I begin to hyperventilate about the abysmal screenplay. This awful screenplay was written by Brian Miller. This screenplay had no life to it. One of the things that makes it awful, there were no personality to the characters. What made found footages films like “Cloverfield”, ”The Blair Witch Project” and “Paranormal Activity” work was the fact the characters in those film had personality and you were invested in the characters. Here I didn’t care about these characters. The characters felt like they came out of a boring documentary. If I don’t care about the characters, then the found footage gimmick doesn’t work. The other problem that makes this screenplay awful. There’s too much needless scenes and less scares. For the first hour of the film, I was just flat out bored. There is no attempt to build any tension to get you interested. By the time the action starts, you just don’t care anymore about this film. I don’t want to see that, unless your trying to build character development. There was none of that here, as it was just characters talking to kill time. That’s what makes some films like this boring.
Blu-Ray Extras
First on the disc is the film’s audio commentary track with director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego and the film’s editor Patrick Lussier. This was a good commentary track, considering that I didn‘t like the film. Both of them go into the production and editing of this film and how some of it was rushed. The other thing that I liked about, you get stories about the pre-production, the actual filming of the film and the long post production that this film had. It made the track interesting and made up for the lack of behind the scenes featurette. Overall, a nice commentary track.
After the commentary track, there are four alternate endings and some deleted and extended scenes.
Final Summary
“Apollo 18” was very disappointing movie that really needed better character development and action to keep the film moving. Instead, it’s movie that does nothing for almost the entire time, which leads to the film’s downfall. I put the blame with screenwriter, as the director really tried his best the material at hand.

Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company announced today the Blu-ray™ and DVD release of the “absorbing mystery” (Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly), SARAH’S KEY, from director Gilles Paquet-Brenner (WALLED IN). Based on Tatiana de Rosnay’s bestselling novel, SARAH’S KEY stars Oscar® nominee Kristin Scott Thomas (THE ENGLISH PATIENT), Mélusine Mayance, Niels Arestrup (THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY), Frédéric Pierrot (I’VE LOVED YOU FOR SO LONG), and Aidan Quinn (LEGENDS OF THE FALL). Heading to retail on November 22, 2011, the SARAH’S KEY Blu-ray™ and DVD include a “The Making of Sarah’s Key” featurette, and are available for an SRP of $39.99 and $29.98 respectively.
In his review for The Los Angeles Times, film critic Kenneth Turan called SARAH’S KEY “powerful.” Rex Reed of the New York Observer wrote, “the chapters unfold like the pages of a book you can’t put down.” Karen Durbin of ELLE Magazine described SARAH’S KEY as “a gripping, intricate film. It takes on the flavor of a detective story. SARAH’S KEY alternates between two remarkable heroines: Kristin Scott Thomas is excellent, Mélusine Mayance is wonderfully evocative.”
SARAH’S KEY tells the story of a decades-old mystery unsolved. A courageous life unknown. A family’s secrets untold — until now. Julia Jarmond (Kristin Scott Thomas) is an American journalist living in Paris with her French husband Bertrand (Frédéric Pierrot), assigned to cover the anniversary of France’s notorious 1942 Vel’ d’Hiv Roundup of Jews in World War II. She’s stunned to discover that Bertrand’s family apartment was the scene of an unspeakable incident committed during the war; his family has been concealing a disturbing secret; and a young French girl Sarah (Mélusine Mayance) holds the key to unlock the devastating truth. SARAH’S KEY is an unforgettably moving motion picture experience, “beautifully adapted to the screen from Tatiana de Rosnay’s bestselling novel” (Kirk Honeycutt, The Hollywood Reporter).

Laura (Jenna Fischer, “The Office”) wants nothing more than to run her own life; however, it only seems to run her into the ground. A Long Island dental hygienist, she relies on guilty pleasures – cigarettes and beer – to help her cope with an unruly lifestyle. Dealing with Bob, her unfaithful husband (Chris O’Donnell, “NCIS Los Angeles”), an overbearing family and a brother-in-law (Rob Benedict, “Supernatural”) who’s loved her since high school, Laura could use a little help!
But when Bob suddenly dies and her 12-year-old son (Daniel Yelsky, Meet Monica Velour, “Rescue Me”) tells an outrageous lie at school to impress his classmates, Laura’s life seems to twist out of her grasp in a crazy, downward spiral. To whom – or what – does she turn for help? Her family? Herself? Or that nearest cold six-pack? Academy Award®-nominee Lesley Ann Warren (Victor/Victoria), Ron Leibman (Norma Rae; Emmy® winner, “Kaz”) and Brooke Smith (Silence of the Lambs) costar in this “highly entertaining and richly human movie experience” (Box Office Magazine).
